INDIGO MOOD with Tisserand Dakar: The indigo trend has been around as long as we can remember and will definitely remain a timeless element of home design. In our Tisserand Dakar Mood Board #5, the color scheme of the bedroom is indigo – a mesmerizing almost mythical dark blue/purplish hue – white, light wood and a touch of silver. 1. To start with, draw attention to the center piece with a bogolan chevron style indigo throw over half of the bed to create a bedroom with personality yet expressive of inner peace and tranquility. If a full indigo throw is too overwhelming, place a couple of Tisserand Dakar indigo bogolan or Burkina striped blue and white cushions over all-white bed linen for a crisp effect. 3. Adorn the wall right above the bed with a single large unpainted Cameroon shield for an urban chic feel. 3. The second larger piece, the dark blue dresser, can carry either dark blue vases or white vases to bring coherence to the color scheme. For more flexibility, another option is to keep the larger pieces, like the dresser, in a natural wood, and add Indigo accents, like midnight blue vases. 4.. For seating and to keep the room sleek and trendy, use a navy blue Acapulco chair, which can easily be custom made @Issaka’s in Plateau. 5. Add a touch of shine/glam with a silver mirror or keep it all natural with a straw mirror thus remaining with the light wood color element. 6. In this board, we opted for sheer blue treatments, however a white sheer window treatment can help keep it fresh and light,. 6. Finish off the Indigo themed bedroom with a couple of stunning off-white hampers trimmed with indigo fabric (@imadiworld.). AFRO-CONTEMPORARY: Everybody loves vibrant colors in the house but nothing more relaxing than simple furniture, natural textiles and handcrafted decor. Start with our grey POLKA DOT bogolan and velvet armchair and ottoman – shown here as the centerpiece. Against the wall, a Eucalyptus ladder, perfect for showing off our, one of a kind, handwoven KENEME and JERICHO throws. Look for a stunning white washed wood buffet to create an exotic Eastern ambiance. Add in a SENUFO table and a natural fiber rug (cotton, jute or sisal). A touch of sleek decor with a unique matte grey ceramic vase. Have a simple meal in our CASAMANCE hand crafted ceramics. You’ve created a soothing retreat wherever you are! #tisseranddakar #westafricanwayoflife
SEN-DANO: we call it SENDANO because it is a mix of sleek mid-century modern Danish design and West African chic. The center piece is our SENDANO chair, inspired by the mythical Hans Wegner’s original 1949 design, revisited and entirely made by hand in Senegal. Make that chair comfy with a black and white handwoven BURKINA pillow. The plush proverbial Beni Ouarain hand-knotted rug is of course a must in any modern mid-century style decor. Add a sleek contemporary touch with a light wood cocktail cabinet, perfect for those warm summer evenings, African white gourd baskets from Zimbabawe and an oversized off-white string pendant light which can be made anywhere in Africa by your local artisan. Top it off with stunning black and white art (in this pic from theodysseeonline.com) and finish the look with a sizeable hamper basket trimmed with black leather from @imadiworld. You’ve created yourself a cool mid-century modern retreat uniquely made in Africa. #tisseranddakar #tisserand.dakar #tisseranddakarmoodboard #styleitwithtisseranddakar #westafricanwayoflife

BOHO but CHIC: If, like us, you’re in love with mustard yellow tones, there are plenty of decor options out there to give you that warm yet crisp interior you’ve been yearning for. To achieve that look, combine a general off-white base with lighter woods and natural textiles in off white, mustard and grey tones. 1. In this inspiration board, we started with a white linen slip covered sofa as a center piece. Dakar counts so many talented tailors and such a great selection of fabric stores that you can achieve that new look by giving your old sofa a new life with a washable off white cotton or linen slip cover. 2. Add our mustard DASH & DOT bogolan pillow, our handwoven off white cotton pillow and a mustard linen ‘OS DE CHAMEAU’ pillow adorned with painted bone pearls. 3. The second larger piece of furniture in our inspiration board is a grey console table with light gold accents – this piece in a darker grey will help ground the overall color theme; 4. Don’t hesitate to add a couple of grey bogolan pillows (our grey DASH & DOT and grey SPIDER bogolan pillows shown here on the floor). 5. Our EUCALYPTUS ladder, backed up against the wall is a nice natural way of exhibiting your favorite cotton fabrics, and in this case we hung our handwoven KENEME throw, in perfect harmony with the overall color scheme. The natural wood theme carries through the board with our stool on the right, hand crafted in one single piece of BÉTÉ trunk. 6. Complete the look with sheer linen or cotton window treatments, a simple modern table lamp and a mustard geometric rug. 7. For final decor, add a couple of TONGA baskets on the wall. The small stone man sculpture is very affordable. It is carved with a simple knife in a single rough stone by an artisan on Gorée Island. Look for him towards the top of the island, he’s a beautiful find. You’ve now created a serene ‘Boho but Chic’ abode.
